The media portrays mental health in a variety of negative ways. In todays society we are slowly becoming more accepting and aware of those struggling, yet there is still a lot of work to be done. Below are some ways someone who is working on their mental health is looked at by the mainstream media. I have also written ways who someone working on their mental health is actually feeling and characteristics that describe them.
Someone who is working on their mental health is…
1) Portrayed in the media as…:
A weakness.
A burden.
A fault.
A taboo subject.
A danger to others.
A lost cause.
A shame.
A deranged person.
A ticking time bomb.
2) Actually…:
Really strong.
Very aware.
On the right path.
Someone’s loved one.
Supported by many people.
More emotionally aware than most.
Scared to share their true feelings due to stigmatization.
Misunderstood.
Trying to find inner peace.
Having good days and bad days.
Going better off for going through the hard times.
